Description

This schÖGSLn.IT workshop builds on the SNOWPACK introduction and takes you from a single simulation run to a full model chain. You'll fill data gaps at your stations with weather model data, simulate the snowpack at several additional locations, and start your simulations directly from an observed snow profile.

Weather model data instead of station data gaps

Some weather stations aren't equipped with every sensor. We'll fill in all missing parameters using current or historical weather model data.

Model chain for points of interest

You don't necessarily need weather stations to run simulations. You'll define your own points in catchment areas, and we'll build virtual stations from weather model data. Then we'll run the entire model chain.

Starting from a manual profile

A profile in CAAML6 format becomes the initial state of the simulation. We'll examine how factors such as the density measurement in a manual profile can affect the simulation later on, and we'll run it forward with weather model data.

Schedule

14:00-14:15 Setup check: current versions of MeteoIO and SNOWPACK, plus a compatible Python version

14:10-15:00 Weather model data instead of station data gaps

Stations with missing sensors are filled in.

15:00-15:40 Model chain for points of interest

Virtual stations are created, and the complete model chain is run with weather model data.

15:40-16:00 Break

16:00-16:45 Profile initialization

Manual profiles are converted into clean CAAML6 format and used as the starting point for the model chain.
