Charly-Sam – YSP Award – Young Snow Professional Award

The YSP, the most important part of the ÖGSL’s support for young talent, is built above all on the connection between theory and practice. This motto is reflected not only in our current members but especially in the ÖGSL’s earliest supporters and sponsors, Karl “Charly” Kleemayr and Sam Wyssen, to whom these awards are dedicated. The YSP is founded on the ideals they lived by: exchange, innovation, and a shared enthusiasm for snow and avalanches.

The YSP Award: The ÖGSL’s Program for Promoting Young Talent.

The award winners receive travel grants to present their work at selected national and international conferences, such as the Avalanche Symposium in Austria or the International Snow Science Workshop. These platforms enable them to contribute actively to advancing snow and avalanche practice and research, and to build valuable professional connections.

An expert committee evaluates the submissions against the established YSP criteria (originality and innovation, relevance, quality, and the link between research and practice) and nominates selected entries for presentation at the March edition of the schnee.semmelnar. After the presentations, the committee makes its final evaluation and announces the Young Snow Professional.
